Cory de Vries died in Freeport, Bahamas on 17 March 2017.

His passion was sailing. He won many races on his yacht 'the Lucaya ' before joining his friend George Coumantaros sailing on the famous yacht ‘Boomerang’. They raced all over the world, including over 20 Southern Ocean Racing Circuit races. Boomerang won many world championships, and together with his friends and fellow crew members Cory survived the famous and lethal Fastnet Race in 1979.

Cory was a mentor to many younger sailors and we are raising funds in his memory to teach a member of the next generation to sail. It costs $350 to enrol a youngster on the Grand Bahama Sailing Club summer Sailing Camp. We would like the funds to go towards helping a young child who otherwise might not be able to attend.

The camps allow children to be immersed in the Bahamas national sport of sailing, along with increasing the child’s knowledge and confidence in the waters we are surrounded by. This year an extra adventure component will involve additional exciting activities being offered depending on each child’s skill and maturity level.
