Story

The Costa Foundation is an independant charity that aims to relieve poverty in coffee-growing communities. Its mission is to improve the life chances of boys and girls by providing them with the opportunity for a quality education. Costa Foundation schools deliver both academic and extracurricular programs that enhace, health, gender equality and environment. In the last decade the Costa Foundation has supported 72 school projects in nine countries across the world. Children are currently benefitting from Costa Foundation funded schools and other social and personal development programmes in Colombia, Costa Rica, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Honduras, Peru, Nicaragua, Vietnam and Uganda with a school under construction in Zambia.

The Costa Foundation has supported much more than just building classrooms. In the 72 communities that the CF has been working with, many additional projects have been completed. Libraries, additional classrooms, dormitories and computer labs, school farm projects and teacher accomodation are just some of the successful ways that further support has been granted to help deliver much more than just academic education.

The amazing work that the Costa Foundation has done could not continue without the voluntary fundraising that takes place ever year throughout all the Costa stores up and down the country. This year us here at Costa Braehead Drive-Thru along with the rest of the Drive-Thru stores in the UK will be raising money which goes directly towards funding projects in Honduras. Currently there are seven schools already funded in Honduras, the first opening back in 2014. A donation of £20 can provide one child with school uniform however us here at BHDT want to raise as much as we can. At Costa we believe that everyone deserves the right to education and if we can help change the life of one person, then its already a worthwhile cause, but to help change the lives of thousands is truly inspiring!

As a team we have decided that this year to raise money we are going to push ourselves to the limit and climb 1,345m above sea level...the highest peak in the UK...yes you guessed it - Ben Nevis! On Sunday the 19th of August us baristas will be swapping coffee for the great outdoors, we are by no means athletes or experienced hillclimbers however, as we're doing it for such an amazing and truly worthwhile cause we don't mind a day away from our beloved coffee machines as long as theres lots of espresso at the summit right?! Ashleigh, Ross, Chloe, Maham, Jess, Jemma, Dylan, Heather, Leigh & Laura are all excited for the challenge! Together as a team (or a family as we call ourselves at BHDT) we know that we'll support each other with the same positive and fun attitude that we bring to store every day and we'll get to the top of that mountain come rain or shine!

It would really mean so much to all of us if you could donate what you can, however big or small, it truly does make a difference. If you would like anymore information please feel free to send an email. Or visit the Costa Foundation website where you can find more info on each of the different projects in Honduras (there are some pretty amazing videos available online) https://www.costafoundation.com/projects/

Make sure to follow us on Instagram too >> costa_glasgow_braehead_dt << We'll be keeping everyone updated before, during and after the climb on here!

Thank you so much, big love and positive vibes from all the team at Braehead Drive-Thru x
