"I can't help thinking what may have been had my cancer been picked up earlier" - Jordan Hudson.
Jamieson Law and Friends are pushing ourselves as much as we can and raising money for a cause that is incredibly close to our hearts.
The team, our friends and family will be 'Counting Our Miles for Cancer' to celebrate the memory of Jordan Hudson. Jordan was one of our founder Babs' close friends. Here is her story:
Jordan was a primary school teacher, who just loved life. She was hugely into fitness (especially running half marathons). In 2013, Jordan began experiencing issues - she was back and forward to the doctor with very painful bloating and other out of the ordinary symptoms. She knew something wasn't right.
She was diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome, however in 2018 the symptoms worsened - severe back pain being one of them. Jordan's GP waived this off as stress, dismissing her worries and pain because of her age.
This went on and on, until one day Jordan's back pain was so bad she had to go to A&E. A registrar there said it was "almost 100 per cent certain not cancer". Not convinced, Jordan pushed for a colonoscopy. 2 days later, in May 2018, she was diagnosed with incurable, stage 4 bowel cancer which had spread to her liver, ovaries and lungs.
Jordan experience a FIVE YEAR delay in diagnosis, and unfortunately this isn't an isolated case - many of our team have been touched by this heartbreaking reality. Mis-diagnosis, not being taken seriously by medical professionals due to age and gender and delayed diagnosis is incredibly common.
After Jordan's diagnosis, she had surgery to remove the tumour, her ovaries, her appendix and part of her abdominal wall. She received 20 rounds of chemotherapy too, and never complained once. She ran a 10K before each round, just to prove that the cancer wouldn’t beat her. She was a true warrior.
While fighting her own battle, Jordan spent her time trying to set up a fitness centre in her local area to allow cancer patients to keep fit and healthy, in an environment where they felt confident and safe. Something we learned from Jordan was that it’s not always easy for cancer patients trying to stay fit and active in a normal gym setting, or around people who don’t understand their struggle.
Heartbreakingly, in March 2020, Jordan sadly passed away.
Jordan's birthday is coming up on the 11th of October. And, in honour of her life, her continued positivity and her powerful battle, we will be taking on the challenge of 'Count Your Miles for Cancer'.
Starting on the 11th, we (and our friends) will collectively be running as many miles as possible within a 4 day period. Join us on our journey. We'll be posting updates here and across all of our social media, so keep posted!
All donations will be given to 2 amazing charities:
