Story

My big sister has suffered with Alopecia Areata all of her life and it has been very difficult. From a young age she has cared for our mum who is very sick with various illnesses and is now on the waiting list for a kidney transplant. The stress of caring for our mum and me whilst trying to manage school only made her hair loss worse. She missed out on a lot of school, making friends and because of this she became quite depressed.

Throughout her childhood and school she has worn hats, headbands with hair extensions sewn to them, clip in and sewn extensions and she has even tried the NHS funded wigs. Her hats and wigs were knocked off in school, headband slipped off due to the weight of the hair extensions sewn on and the NHS wigs irritated her scalp to the point of bleeding and having to sleep with cold towels on her pillow. Not only this, she couldn’t look at herself in the mirror and that made me really upset. She did not like to see the severity of her hair loss, she felt ugly and could not get out of the depressing state she was in and it was difficult to look after mum and me when she was feeling this way. She did not go out and when she did she avoided busy places due to the fear of her hat, wig or hair being knocked out of place.

She now needs a new hair replacement system as her condition is just getting worse and worse and after everything she has done for me throughout my life, anything I have needed she has gotten for me and now I want to do something for her. If I could give her the money I would. Please help in any way you can.
