PLANTING A FOREST OF MEMORIES

According to the Office of National Statistics, 65,000 people have died in the UK this summer in excess of deaths that would be expected. These deaths are a result of either directly from being infected by the virus, and also because of the impact of lock-down measures on our society. Millions more lives have been impacted in many different ways.

We believe the UK and its people are right to be a proud nation that supports each other in times of need. That means that as a nation it is only right that we collectively do something to mark the sudden national tragedy we are living through. Something to help people impacted and who are in need of our support, something to remember this historic event, but also something that will also be meaningful and useful for future generations.

A forest is a living, breathing thing that symbolically represents new life and fresh air and is a much more fitting memorial than a cold stone monument. A forest will be a lasting tribute that also helps fight climate change, the other great challenge of our time.

By planting the Forest of Memories we will bring people together to create a way to never forget the 65,000 people we lost in the UK. But more than that, the Forest will be a symbol of rejuvenation and growth once we start to recover fully from the impact of Covid-19.

The Forest will be a place of tranquillity to remember the loved ones lost because of Covid-19. But it will also be a place that celebrates the power of human spirit that our nation showed when coming together to help each other in our shared time of need.

The Covid19 Memorial Forest will create new woodland habitat, be a space to enjoy by all, provide jobs for a local community, and it will also help combat climate change - the other great challenge of our time.

Forest Plans

Plans for the Covid19 memorial Forest are currently being developed and will be published in full by the end of September 2020. The scale of the final forest plans will, of course, be dependent on the support this vision achieves during the consultation and initial fundraising period that is being conducted right now.

Only with enough support we can make the Forest of Memories a reality.

This is a societal project that will become a reality only with the support of people like you. The Forest of Memories will be a people's forest to be accessed by everyone. As such we want everyone to have their say on any plans for their Memorial Forest. This includes where it will be located and what facilities will be there for people to use.

To read more on the current Forest Plans and take part in the consultation process please visit the 'Forest Plans ' pages on the Covid19 Memorial Forest Fund website.

Your support will help create a tranquil place of remembrance for the loved ones lost because of Covid19. A space to celebrate the life of somebody close to you, a safe place for you to exercise and escape into nature, and a place to play a part in fighting climate change. This Forest will be the Nations forest, your forest, and a forest for your children and their children yet to come.

Your Donations

Whatever you are able to pledge will go towards getting the campaign started to create The Forest of Memories. 100% of donations will go directly into making the forest a reality.

This JustGiving page will be funding the initial phase of the project where we will be sourcing the land, and developing the Forest design. The planting of the trees will be funded through a combination of available grants, business sponsorship, and business ventures that will raise the required capital.

We cannot do this alone and need your help and support. We want donations through this JustGiving page of course, but we also need people to assist in fundraising, the running of the project, and the eventual building of the Forest. Equally, you might be able to introduce us to a business who could wish to help with Forest sponsorship. Whatever way you might be able to help, please do get in touch with the team. You can find our contact details here.

Who Are We?

The Forest or Memories project is run by ‘Our Heroes’, a not-for-profit Community Interest Company (CIC). Our Heroes was formed by a group of ordinary people who feel driven to play our small part in helping society recover from the impact of Covid19. Read more about us here .

Our immediate aims are to help ensure that those we have lost to Covid19 are remembered and that ordinary people who did good deeds big or small are celebrated as the heroes of our time.

Beyond these things, we will create ways to connect people around local causes of importance to them. By doing so, we believe that we can help people work together to take action and build a better world for us all. A world that raises us above the tragedies of Covid19 that have impacted our society, a world that is better than before.

You can follow the forest growth on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn.
