Disability support

Story

I’m reaching out to seek help in regaining my independence and freedom. Earlier this year, I was fortunate to receive fundraising support for my medical bills, which led to improvements in my condition, particularly an increase in my energy levels that allows me to be out of bed more often.

Despite this progress, I’m still living with a disability and face significant limitations—I can’t even manage a grocery shop and my physical abilities are only declining. We're currently investigating the cause of my condition, which may be a demyelinating disease, and on good weeks, I can only walk for about 20 minutes.

This is why I’m asking for your generosity once more. For nearly four years, I've missed out on so many life experiences due to being bedridden or facing accessibility challenges. My friends and doctor believe that with the additional energy I’ve gained, it’s important for me to embrace life's opportunities. Therefore, I would like to purchase a powered wheelchair, which my doctor also supports.

Like many individuals in my situation, I can’t afford to give up the enhanced mobility component of my PIP to lease a chair. The costs of being unwell are significant, and I still have regular bills and rent to pay.

While I know I’m asking a lot, I'm just 31 years old and still have so much life and determination left in me, especially with my recent increase in energy.

I don’t want to remain confined to my home; I want to do things like grocery shopping, explore the town for lunch with my mum, and resume the outdoor adventures I used to share with Bella. Just this week, I’m trying to find a portable chair or scooter to rent so I can attend the Stourhead Christmas lights with my goddaughter—without a chair, I won’t be able to go.

I don’t want to keep saying “no” to life experiences; I’ve already missed out on too much. Thank you for considering my request.

The chair I’d like to purchase is the TGA Whill C2 or the Robooter E60 Pro. Both are transportable in the car and will give me complete freedom both out on walks and getting around shops. The E60 Pro comes in cheaper and is my preferred choice, withgreater capabilities.
