We started our work four years ago because most of the services for mental health in the City of Southampton had closed. Since then, we have become a literal lifeline to many. People who attend our drop in say that this is the 'anchor' to their week. Some, who have attended our women's group have found a new freedom to talk about issues they have not been brave enough to share anywhere. People who have attended our meal cookery and baking classes have learnt new skills. Folk who attend our weekly singing group and art club have discovered new talents and some learnt new interests. Some people have gone onto voluntary and paid work elsewhere after building up their confidence with us. Some have gone on to gain full-time jobs too! We need to be able to continue our good work and also offer an evening service and a drop-in for people on the other side of the City. We also want to have a monthly carer's club and to be able to facilitate a number of new activities including sailing and swimming for our folk who are all on limited benefits.
