Story
The 2020/21 season would have seen lots of great minis rugby at Chelmsford Rugby Club. It would also have seen us celebrating our 100th anniversary and all the excitement of a British and Irish Lions tour to South Africa.
With our rugby ruined by Covid, our centenary postponed and even the Lions Tour in doubt; The kids in the minis section at CRFC have decided that they are not going to let this stop them celebrating all the good things that should have happened this season!
And while we are at it; We are going to do something to encourage us (and our families) to keep fit & healthy AND do something to help our local community!
So, every minis age group at Chelmsford RFC, from the youngest u6s to graduating u12s, is taking on the challenge of travelling 1920km as a team. In the process, each group will try to raise £1920 for our local Foodbank in Chelmsford.
To do this, each of the minis age group is attempting to run, walk and cycle the 1920km from Chelmsford to Saracens RFC (our partner club and home to many of the Lions on this years' tour), then onto Twickenham, to Cardiff, to Dublin, to Edinburgh, before we return to Chelmsford via a quick stop at Rugby School, the birthplace of our sport.
A total journey of 1920km (a big nod to the year that Chelmsford RFC came into being). A route that will see us virtually visiting all the home stadiums of the countries participating in this year’s Lions Tour to South Africa.
Some of the minis are making the challenge even harder by then going on from Chelmsford to the Stadio Olympico in Rome, via the Stade de France in Paris (in anticipation of the start of this year’s Six Nations). An additional journey of 1920km.
When we combine all our efforts together, we hope that would have collectively travelled the total distance between Chelmsford and Johannesburg in South Africa, the location of the first British and Irish Lions test this Summer.
We also hope we will have raised a lot of money for the Chelmsford Foodbank. The Foodbank has already helped 1000's of families this year but the number of people struggling is growing every day. Can you please help us to hit our target with a small donation. Any money raised will be used to buy food or other items, such as toilet roll and shower gel which are desperately short in supply.
Thank you
Coach Matt and all the minis at CRFC.
