Help us fix Cromarty Courthouse's very own time machine!

Our clock has kept time for the people of Cromarty since it was made by John Ross of Tain in 1782. The clock was originally wound daily, but was converted to an electric mechanism in 1990. This icon of Cromarty has now stopped working and needs urgent work to restore both the clock and bell tower.

We are raising funds to get the clock functioning again, stabilise the interior stairs in the clocktower, and provide ongoing servicing and maintenance for years to come.

One of Cromarty's biggest mysteries is how a bell from a Spanish vessel came to be hanging in the bell tower of Cromarty Courthouse. The bell, which tolled the hours has an inscription SAN DIMAS CARACA ANO D 1771. Caraca is the naval dockyard in Cadiz, suggesting that the bell is from a Spanish vessel, the San Dimas. However we know nothing about this ship or how the bell came to Cromarty Courthouse.
