    What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

    Story

At 17 I had an operation to correct the alignment of my left knee cap as it was too high and out to the side as well as the patella being shallow. I then developed intense pain in my knee. My surgeon and pain specialist diagnosed Complex Regional Pain Syndrome Type 2 - my nerves had been affected in the operation. CRPS is rated the highest on the McGill Pain Scale.

    My CRPS type 2 symptoms:
    - Severe 24/7 burning pain
    - Dramatic increase in skin temperature
    - Swelling & stiffness
    - Colour change
    - Extreme sensitivity to touch
    - Reduced mobility
    - Strange sensations
    - Muscle spasms & shooting pains
    - Insomnia

After exhausting all treatment options in my local area I found The Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases which specialised in an inpatient programme for people with CRPS which I took part in. However they too were unable to help me. My specialists have discharged me due there being no other treatment options left.

I researched alternative therapies/trials and found Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy. An MS charity centre offers it to those who can self-fund and diagnosed with anything related to the nervous system. I had 20 consecutive sessions to get my blood oxygenated to as close to 100% followed by 2-3 sessions per week to maintain it. There's a lot of science and research on this so please go look! Following the therapy the swelling, burning, and temperature changes all started to reduce which was amazing. Work commitments, finances and difficulties travelling meant I had to stop. Now the only slight relief I get is constant elevation and using ice packs 24/7, I even have a freezer at the side of my bed! But they've reduced the blood supply to my knee causing secondary problems.

CRPS has changed so much of my life and has took away my dreams. I suffer from depression and anxiety due to it, every day I want to give up knowing I'm out of options. There isn't a cure but I need some sort of hope and relief, having a HBOT chamber can give me that.

    Thank You

A very kind hearted & generous person came forward to donate the remaining funds I needed to get the Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber. The person has asked to stay anonymous but I hope people can join me in recognising how amazing & selfless the person is. I will forever be grateful to them, family, friends & every other person who has helped. Now I have a long term treatment to relieve my symptoms which will make a massive impact. I can’t wait to get started and to be able to use it every day. CRPS me and my chamber are coming for you. Thank you 🧡

I’m over half way at £10,908! this doesn’t show here as we’ve done recent events. It’s incredible that we’ve reached this in less than a year - a big thanks to everyone, I’m overwhelmed by the generosity & kind support! If 10,607 people donate ‘A POUND FOR PAIGE’ we’ll achieve the goal. The fundraising site is now on GoFundMe as they don’t charge a platform fee. PLEASE SHARE & DONATE £1 on this link: https://www.gofundme.com/paigehowittcrps?sharetype=teams&member=216474&pc=ot_co_dashboard_a&rcid=4f2a6dab2a234f77bec58e94c2f1571d

The updated total raised is now £10,204.67!!! This doesn’t show on JustGiving as we have done 3 recent fundraising events which aren’t transferred onto there as a percentage will be took off of it for their fees. This means I am only £552.83 away from reaching the halfway milestone of my target which is a huge deal! I can’t believe how much has been donated I really am overwhelmed and incredibly grateful. I wouldn’t be in this position if it wasn’t for the selfless and kind hearted people who have donated. Hopefully I can reach halfway soon 🧡

I'm 23, live with my partner & we both work but I have reduced hours due to my CRPS. My family are my world. I used to be very active & my dream before CRPS was to be a paediatric nurse. Now I spend a lot of time at home watching Netflix series and being with our 2 dogs.
