Story

Cunningsburgh Village Club has been running for well over 30 years, welcoming many bairns through the doors in order to support, educate and help them meet with friends in a safe, warm, fun environment. Over the years the youth club has arranged many activities and trips to outdoor and leisure centres, theatre performances and other cultural events. Yet, no matter how far we travel, we are always grateful that we have the Village Club building to call our own. It's hard to overstate just how amazing it is to have our own building - it's more that just a place to go; it's somewhere that the young people can call their own. They can decorate, display photos and artwork and do what they enjoy most - have a little bit of freedom and choice to be spontaneous on club nights!

The club exists to facilitate the work of the three youth clubs that share the building - we have the Peerie Club for young primary kids to enjoy free play and crafts; the junior club for older primary kids which encourages play and art and music with a little more structure; and the senior club that supports those transitioning from primary into secondary and beyond in an environment that gives them a safe space to express themselves and develop a broader awareness of their place in the community through accredited volunteering schemes. The club also has a vision to be a community hub; a place where a variety of community groups can meet and gather, taking advantage of the facilities to promote activities that bind our community together. We support our local school by providing much-needed extra classroom space, and we hire our facilities at low cost to local residents.

At the moment we're struggling. We have a nucleus of committed and enthusiastic people but the building is in need of desperate updating and repair. Our local authority funding has been slashed in recent years, and our out of date and inefficient heating system is costing us more than we can afford to sustain. We desperately need new people to get involved to lead us forward by finding new sources of funding and shaping the future of our work. We are asking the wider community to support us to raise £5000 which will cover our running costs for the next few months, and give us a valuable cash injection which will give us the time we need to meet with local stakeholders and secure the club's long-term future.

Our very dedicated team of youth workers and young people who attend the clubs have some exciting ideas to make the Building accessible to all of the community.

We really need your help but, if you can't contribute financially, please help us by sharing our page.

Thank you so much.
