Weʼve raised £260 to help send CUPLC women to the University Powerlifting World Championships in South Africa

Funded on Monday, 31st July 2017

    Story

For the first time ever, this year, Cambridge University Powerlifting Club (CUPLC) managed to send a full team of women (7) to the British University World Championships (BUCs).
Our efforts at BUCs ending up helping us place overall within the top 5 female university teams in the UK, meaning that we qualified for the University World Championships in South Africa which take place in July.
This is a huge step for the club, who before this year only had a couple of women competing regularly. For many of the women in the team, this was their first real powerlifting competition so it is hugely impressive that we've managed to make it this far!
Unfortunately powerlifting is not a very well funded sport in the UK and we are having to pay for our flights, accommodation and other expenses ourselves - which not all of us can afford. If you can help us raise some money to support us in South Africa, it will be much more likely that more members of the team can make it. We currently have 3 of our women nominated to be there and one coach.

      Update from the Page owner

Thank you to everyone who helped support us on our journey to South Africa! A quick update to those who are not already aware - our three ladies all hit huge PRs on all their lifts and performed well on the day. Suzanne became the 63kg University World Champion with a total of 337.5kg, Stacey finished with a massive PR total of 215kg and Megan hit an impressive 282.5kg - both made incredible gains on their BUCs totals and handled the day extremely well considering it was their second competition ever (!).

I always knew Stacey had hidden talents. Now we know another one I wish her best of luck with that and look forward to seeing her realise her potential in other areas too. Good luck, girls!
