Story

Here at Curledge Street Academy we want our children to have rich and inspiring learning opportunities so they leave school confident, compassionate and empowered individuals.

With pressures on school budgets and families struggling to make ends meet, we are finding it increasingly difficult to provide these opportunities financially.

Each year we run a residential for our year 6 children to give them the skills to work as a team and build self confidence. For many of them it gives them the first real opportunity to stay away from home and experience a range of activities for the first time. They return having an appreciation for the outdoors and each other!

Over the years fewer children have been able to afford to take part as the cost to send an individual is nearly £170 for 2.5 days away - roughly an eye watering £10000 for a year group of 60 children!

Last year something amazing happened ... our year 5 pupils decided to take things into their own hands. They wanted everyone to attend the 2018 camp.

They have rallied children from across the school (from reception class to year 6!) and press ganged 2 members of staff to run the Torbay Half Marathon on Sunday 24th June 2018.

We have been clocking up the miles each Friday night after school. With the final mile being run on the day as part of the children's marathon.
