Story
Several players from the CVRFC U15s team are participating in the Chew Valley 10K, along with coaches, a scenic race through the beautiful countryside of North Somerset, which includes a challenging hill. The boys are running to raise funds so that some of their teammates, along with other players from the Chew Valley junior section, can join them on the Chew Junior Tour.
These players are part of the star* scheme at Chew Valley RFC, which supports young people who have experienced multiple adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) by providing them with a sense of community and purpose through rugby. Participants can interact with trauma-informed coaches and volunteers who offer support in a non-judgmental manner. The scheme covers travel and subscription costs, but the club is encouraged to fundraise independently for tour expenses.
The entire junior section comes together for a fun weekend of rugby, celebrating the successes of the season and building excitement for the next.
£1,600 will cover all the star* young people to attend, enjoy the tour and be no different to the others.
The 10k race takes place on the 1st of June.
In the UK, adverse childhood experiences are categorised into eight groups:
1. Maltreatment
2. Violence and Coercion
3. Adjustment
4. Prejudice
5. Household or Family Adversity
6. Inhuman Treatment
7. Adult Responsibilities
8. Bereavement and Survivorship
