Story
“The journey of thousands of children begin with your passion, determination and the willingness to make a difference”
Dr Graham’s Homes is quite unlike any other school!
On a hillside in Kalimpong, a unique cosmopolitan town where India meets Nepal, Sikkim and Bhutan and Tibet is on the horizon, spread over 500 acres is the day and boarding school of Dr. Graham’s Homes accommodating around 1500 students. The very youngest are only three years old and have been plucked from the streets of Calcutta to begin a new life in the Lucia King kindergarten. At any one time there will be 250 such children supported by our homes committee progressing through a cottage system started by Dr Graham more than 100 years ago. After school, they will be given the opportunity to attend college and lead a fulfilling life.
This school is close to my heart as my step-mom came over to the UK after gaining her education at Dr Grahams home. She went on to become a very successful midwife and contributed so much to maternity services inWest Lothian community.
Due to the recent pandemic causing a lack of fundraising opportunities, the homes are in much need of the funds required to give these under privileged kids the best possible start in life.
Carol and I have teamed up with 13 other riders from around the world to conquer this famous cycle route. This challenge will take on 300 miles from Kathmandu (Nepal) to the homes in Kalimpong (India) in 5 days from 19th September to 23rd September 2022. This tough route takes on many hills and runs along the foot of the Himalayas.
The day after we arrive, we are so excited to meet all the children on founders day and see the work that we are supporting.
The money raised is ear marked for much needed repair of the cottages where the children live.
Every penny raised goes directly to the renovation of the homes. "No administration, no overheads, no fees".
We, of course, will cover all our own expenses - flights, accommodation, food and the team support to keep us safe.
Please help us by donating to this wonderful cause.
