Story
Cycling Without Age Wellington
The purpose of Cycling Without Age is to provide free, recreational mobility to seniors and the less-abled in the form of volunteer-piloted trishaw rides.
We are crowdfunding to purchase a trishaw bicycle for the Wellington and Taunton area so that volunteers can offer free rides to the community. We want to offer the chance for the elderly to access the outdoors and feel the wind in their hair again! The trishaw bicycle will travel to local nursing homes and be offered to residents to take journeys about their local area, to tell their stories and to regain some vibrance to their lives again.
Cycling is the most joyous of all the forms of exercise. It creates euphoria! It is the transport of the future and it keeps us fit. It uplifts and it sets us free! Everyone should have access to this experience but unfortunately it is something that is usually accessible to only the youth and the able-bodied. I want to change that with the Cycling Without Age Wellington project.
To raise these funds I am bravely (and slightly hysterically) committing to achieve 10 x 10km races across 10 months in 2019. If these go well I may even try and top this at the end of the year with an additional challenge! Please support this worthy cause and make a difference to the lives of the elderly and less able by donating to help purchase a trishaw and get this project off the ground.
All donations, however small, will make a big difference to the lives of the local elderly. Every donation is very much appreciated and will make a huge difference to helping us achieve our target.
I am also doing this to create a legacy for Franklin Medhurst. A legacy for a man who lived his life on his bicycle. Who touched lives wherever he went. Who was kind and gentle and joyful and magical.
Franklin Medhurst, my Grandfather, did many incredible things in his lifetime, too many to mention here, and we are terribly sad for his passing in 2018. But, we are blessed to have gained so much inspiration from him! What I took from my Grandfather's funeral most of all, was to make life AMAZING! Go out there and make a real difference, create, inspire, befriend, wonder. And of course, cycle! My first step towards this is to create Cycling Without Age Wellington Franks's legacy.
Cycling Without Age Wellington are entirely non-profit and all staff work entirely voluntarily.
If you would like to be involved by volunteering with administration or by piloting the trishaw once we have reached our target then we would LOVE to hear from you. In fact we can't do this without you! We will definately need a good team of volunteers to make this happen but it will be amazing once it is off the ground! Please email us at bryony@cyclingwithoutage.org.uk if you'd like to get involved or know more.
Likewise, if you are connected to a local nursing home who would like to get involved with Cycling Without Age Wellington, once we are up and running, to offer residents rides on our trishaw then please get in touch.
Many thanks for your support,
Bryony Pengelly
