    Story

On the 12th of June 2016 my father of 51 years of age took his own life. He has left behind myself and my Brother and Sister, my mother and his two grandchildren.

He never had a bad bone in his body and always seemed happy in himself. We knew he struggled a little with depression and was on mild antidepressants, but he never opened up to us as to how bad it actually was for him. We think it stemmed from his childhood were it was distilled in him to basically man up and get on with it, or maybe it was the fact that he felt he had to be the man of the house and didn't want too show his weakness to his loved ones. Either way unfortunately we will never know the true reason he did what he did.

One place where he always seemed happy was Scarborough. He and my mother would always take me and my brother and sister there on holidays right from when we were baby's.

Most of my most treasured childhood memories are off the holidays we would take to Scarborough each year.

I will never forget him wanting to arrange a trip to Scarborough shortly before he passed, I wished we had got round to arranging it, but unfortunately it will never be.

I myself now take my children to Scarborough and share all the wonderful stories and knowledge my mum and dad gave me as a child.

One place in Scarborough he especially loved was Peasholm Park,we would spend hours there.

As I'm writing this im sat in a hotel room in Scarborough after a day at Peasholm Park, where all the memories came flooding back.

After noticing memorial benches in the park I thought it would be a wonderful thing for his memory.

Unfortunately we don't have the means to fully fund a memorial plaque on a bench.

The following information is taken from the Scarborough council website, explaining how the £750 will be spent.

    e

    .

£750 is the full cost of what Scarborough Council Charge for the service: For the supply and installation of a standard sized bronze embossed plaque onto an existing seat of an acceptable standard, if available, within a designated area inclusive of a five year maintenance agreement.

Any amount no matter how small is much appreciated, I'm truly humbled by peoples love and support they are showing

My sister and I lost our Dad to suicide 7 yrs ago. We also had no idea that he was in torment. We have a memorial bench in Exmouth. Visiting as a family evokes happy memories, I hope yours will too.
