Story
Dafen Welfare AFC are a football club based in Dafen, Llanelli. The club was founded in 1925 and has been an everpresent in the community since. The club has always aimed to provide opportunity for all to take part in Grassroots Football, enabling everyone to have a platform to develop and grow.
In 2021, where people need support more than ever, Dafen Welfare AFC have come together to embark on a fitness challenge labelled ‘Dafen to Ibiza’. This will probably be yhe closest we will get to going on one of our annual tours, so we have collectively decided to make it a mission to do something positive.
Dafen Welfare AFC will be undertaking a 4 week challenge which will undoubtedly leave many of us shedding blood, sweat and tears. The challenge is to collectively run/walk/cycle the distance between our home in Dafen Park, to Ibiza. This will be a distance of 2350KM. The team will also be carrying out fitness techniques, consisting of Burpees, Press-Ups and more - a total of 32,000 repetitions will be made during the 4 weeks, all with the aim of supporting our local community. The challenges will be managed through our team WhatsApp group, and shown via our Twitter page. (@dafenafc)
Dafen Welfare AFC aim to raise a total of £3000, which will be donated in full to two local establishments:
Prince Philip Hospital Breast Care Unit - the money is centred around patients, providing them with useful tools and resources as a method of support during what can be the toughest of times.
Dafen School - The money donated will be used to develop the outdoor learning environment at Dafen School. Education is not just about lessons within the four walls of the classroom. Being outdoors enhances all aspects of children’s development: social, physical, creative, cultural and personal. Children who have developed these skills are better equipped to learn and to retain their learning. Outdoor learning also promotes children’s health and well-being.
As Dafen Welfare AFC embark on this journey of camaraderie for those who need it most, we ask that you donate whatever you see fit, no matter how big or small to support those in our community and to show that tough times really do bring people together.
Thank you.
