Story
Help us to raise funds to complete the final stretch of footpath around Damson Lane Park.
We have been a community group for almost five years now and have been raising money to put a footpath around the perimeter of Damson Lane Park (formerly Elmdon Heath Recreation Ground). We were told by our local council that there was no funding available to make improvements or to put a footpath around our park so we formed our community group Friends of Damson Parks. Our initial goal was just to link one side of the community to the other in order for the children to have a safe route to school. Jaguar Land Rover had the first stretch of footpath installed for us. It was then that we realised we could put the path around the whole park being 1 kilometre and benefit the whole community. We have completed three quarters of the path and are now looking to fund the final stretch.
Our aim is to bring the community together, create a park to feel safe in, form new friendships and give our community an opportunity to stay healthy whatever your age. We have seen the number of visitors to the park increase since we have installed the footpath including people with disabilities and on mobility scooters who would not have been able to use the park before. We are looking to raise funds to complete the final stretch of footpath that will mean you can walk the whole perimeter of the park on footpath regardless of the weather conditions.
Our success is down to a dedicated team of people who arrange events to raise funds to give us an opportunity to apply for bigger community funding schemes. We have successfully received funding donations from Birmingham International Airport, Veolia and The Big Lottery Fund. However, none of this can be done without the support from the local community so please donate so that we can reach our target to be in a position once again to apply for another funding opportunity we have been made aware of.
