Story

My name is Daniel Furphy and I am a student in Year 11. I am participating in an expedition to Peru in 2019. This will be a 4-week expedition and will include community development work, environmental projects and wildlife conservation.

It will also include additional elements such as a 5-7 day trek to Machu Picchu which will be very difficult but the end result will be worth the effort and I will be learning about the culture in the communities I help.

The core objectives of this expedition are to undertake projects in order to:

• Raise the educational standards of developing communities within a rural district of Peru.

• Raise the living standards of developing communities within a rural district of Peru.

• Assist with ongoing wildlife conservation programmes to preserve biodiversity and protect vulnerable habitats.

This expedition is extremely important to me because I feel that I will acquire and develop many important life skills ,build new and stronger relationships will the people I am going with and learn more about foreign cultures and ways of living.

I am most looking forward to the trek as it will be a challenge but the end result will be worth all the effort and training. To train for this trek, I have been going on practise walks throughout the fundraising period. My first walk was in the Malvern Hills and the second walk was in Brecon Beacons. My final walk will be in Snowdonia which will be the most challenging.

I would be extremely grateful for any and all contributions you can make towards my fundraising.

Thank you in anticipation of your donation.
