    Story

Hi my names Sabrine. When I was pregnant with my second child at my 12 week scan I was told my baby has Gastroschisis. Gastroschsis is a birth defect where the baby has a small hole in the stomach next to their belly button and the bowel has come outside of the body. It requires surgery as soon as the baby is born to put all the bowel back inside the stomach. It was a huge shock to us, as everyone expects their baby to be born healthy. When i found out he wouldn't be I was heartbroken. I was told I would have to give birth at Leeds General Infirmary as this was the closest hospital that could do the surgery and care for him afterwards. The consultants at LGI looked after me very well during my pregnancy, they would keep a very close eye on the baby up until he was ready to be born. They told me he would be born by c section and would be having surgery within 4 hours of been born. They informed me that the average stay on the neonatal unit for babies born with gastrosxhsis was 6 weeks.

Danial was born by c-section 4 weeks early at 3.45pm on 20/02/18. I had the neonatal nurses in the threatre with me waiting for him to be born. As soon as he was born they took him off to the neonatal ward and his dad went with him. I didn't get to see him until 11pm that night. I laid waiting to know how he was doing and when the surgery would take place. While I was waiting the surgeons had gone to see Danial as soon as he got to the ward and managed to put all his bowel back inside his stomach on the ward without needing to go into threatre!! All the worrying of him going to threatre and put to sleep had gone, it was a miracle. The surgeons were amazing and I could never thank them enough. All my life I will be grateful to them.

Danial spent 2 weeks on the neonatal ward. He was a true miracle. Everyone that looked after him looked after him so well. I could not thank the Surgeons, Consultants, Doctors, Nurses etc enough. They all do an amazing job every single day. They save the lives and look after so many poorly babies everyday.

I want to raise money to donate to the Leeds General Infirmary Neonatal Ward . Nothing I do would ever amount up to what they did for Danial but I would like to give them something back to help them with the amazing work they do everyday.

    Thank you
