Story

In September 2024, our 11-year-old son Frazer was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL). Frazer had none of the regular symptoms of ALL, however leading up to his diagnosis he had started struggling to walk and dealing with agonising pains on a daily basis. Once transferred to Sheffield Children’s Hospital and following numerous tests, we discovered he had fractured vertebrae, left hip and femur. With no obvious reason for these injuries further testing confirmed his bones had weakened due to the leukaemia and after a big hip operation we started chemotherapy immediately to treat his Leukaemia.

Given the added complication of the bone fractures this caused Frazer a prolonged hospital stays, while he battled through his mobility issues on top of the chemotherapy destroying his immune system to fight off leukaemia. Although we are only 5 months into this journey, Frazer has had to endure further complications such as infections, stays on intensive care and a blood clot on the brain.

Throughout all of this, the treatment we have received has been second to none and there does appear to be light at the end of the tunnel and Frazer is on the road to recovery hoping one day he can return to playing Rugby which he loved playing since aged 7.

So, the reason we are setting up this just giving page is to kindly ask for your donations to help three fantastic charities which have supported my son and family through this devastating diagnosis. Together, myself, my cousin Scott and friend Ray are taking on the challenge of cycling the C2C route (St Bees to Robin Hoods Bay) in 4 days from the 25th of July 2025.

We aim to Raise £9000 and beyond if possible as this would benefit the charities immensely being able to provide care and compassion to not only Frazer, but all children they help dealing with childhood cancer, which no child should ever have to go through.

The charities I would like to raise money for are:

Sheffield Children's Hospital - Specifically, Ward 6 (Oncology) - I cannot speak highly enough of all the staff on this ward that on a day-to-day basis are treating children with childhood cancers. They are always friendly, caring, and compassionate, helpful, and supportive. They try to make even the worst days seem happy through play and general kindness. (Charity No: 505002)

PACT (Parents Association of Children with Tumours) - Sheffield - This charity has been extremely supportive to me and my wife while we have had prolonged period in hospital with Frazer. They are a rock for families and help them to deal with the day-to-day life of- living with this diagnosis, also provide funding for families to have days out. The ladies in this charity again make every day a bit happier with the kindness and generosity. (Charity No: 508412)

Young Lives vs Cancer – This charity, and in particular Pat who is based in Sheffield Children’s Hospital have been incredibly supportive and has always been there to offer guidance and support while we were coming to terms with the diagnosis. When this happens to a family out of nowhere it can be extremely daunting, and these people are here each day to help fill out forms, give help and guidance on any benefit related matters, blue badges and beyond. They make dealing with this a lot easier and help in any way they can. (Charity No: 1107328)

The work that all three charities do, and have done for our family is extraordinary, and people cannot appreciate the work they do until you find yourself in the situation, we as a family have.

Therefore, we want to raise as much money as possible for these amazing charities, so we can give them a little something back, even though it will never ever thank them enough for the care they have given to us all as a family, it will help them to continue to do this and also help all other families who are affected by this awful disease.

Firstly, I want to thank you for reading this, and hope no matter how big or small, you would kindly be able to donate to this fantastic cause. Every penny is appreciated, and we thank you very much.
