Every day on my way to work I walk past Jamie. He's 22 years old and has been homeless for several months now. We always chat outside Moorfields train station and he is a genuinely good boy who I've seen turn down booze and drugs from strangers. He is always upbeat and never expects or asks for money. Like many homeless people he has had a tough upbringing but this does not show. I have watched him slowly deteriorate over the last month which has been very sad to see. He has looked more sad each day, and more and more lonely. Today I walked past him and noticed he had been beaten up. He had a broken jaw and a broken nose and he wasn't treated at hospital (only diagnosed) because he had no address. He had been sleeping in the rain last night/this morning, and despite his always cheery attitude spoke of killing himself after having trouble getting help with accommodation and food. After walking to several hostels and being refused because of 'no homeless' policies we got help from many lovely strangers to get him a room in a hostel. This boy really needs help. Please can we all help in any way possible to get this good lad accommodation so that he can start getting his life together? He cannot go on like this, and despite the respite he received today, I know this young man can't continue this way. Let's please give him all the help we can to give him a chance in life.
