Story
We are running the Birmingham half marathon on 15th October 2017 in memory of Daniel Banner. Daniel became unwell on the 31st January 2017 and passed away on the 16th April 2017, after just 11 weeks. He was fit and well until then.
Dan was first diagnosed with a chest infection but after various treatments at Russell’s Hall Hospital, Stoke and Birmingham Children’s Hospital (BCH), it became apparent that he had Lymphoma. Regrettably, he developed a rare type called Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma which attacks other parts of the body and in Dan’s case it caused severe damage to his lungs. He is only the 4th known child to develop this particular type of Lymphoma.
He fought bravely throughout various treatments including a heart and lung bypass, chest drains, blood transfusions, chemotherapy and much more. His family were so proud of the way in which he dealt with it all.
We are running the Birmingham half marathon to raise money for Ronald McDonald House Birmingham. Ronald McDonald House Charities provides free 'home away from home' accommodation to families while their child is in hospital. Alison and David stayed at Ronald McDonald house Birmingham whilst Dan was in Birminghan Children's hospital.
When your child is ill, the last thing you need is to worry about where you will stay. Ronald McDonald house Birmingham made sure that Alison and Dave didn't have to worry about this. They provided accommodation for them and Dan's brother Jake and sister Katie. We want to raise money to help ensure that Ronald McDonald House Birmingham can offer the same support to another family in their time of need. If you can sponsor us or even spread awareness of this incredible cause we would be very grateful.
Can you please help raise funds by making a donation?
Thank you
