Story

Our Son Daniel Farbrace was an amazing little boy. He was born prematurely and fought the odds to survive. He developed Leukaemia at 4 months old (corrected age) and after 6 months of chemotherapy, he came home for his First birthday. We had 7 months at home before Daniel relapsed with 2 different types of leukaemia, never seen before at Great Ormond st Hospital. The staff worked tirelessly to help him, but sadly Daniel was unable to fight off the paraflu that he acquired and passed away.

We were devstated when we lost Daniel, but we were able to have time with him in a cold room at Demelza (hospice in Kent). No tubes, no nurses, no monitor watching, and although no parents want to see their baby boy like this, it gave us some peace to spend or final days together like that. We want to give back in our way, to help families make memories with memory packs, to help families have time together With the possibility of giving out grants for days out and holidays together. The long term goal is to get somewhere for families to have respite together, no family should have an unwell child, it divides families and makes times tough, we want to help so families can stay together and make the most of the good days.

When Daniel finished his chemotherapy, he had no immunity and was unvaccinated, he lived like a caged bird, we didn't realise that our local hospice could have provided a cinema experience, swimming lessons and walks around a garden without the fear of him becoming unwell. Hospices are not the end, they are there for respite, for days out, for fun times, as well as being there at the end. We hope to change people's perceptions of hospices, end of life care and the issues surrounding childhood cancer.

It's a long process in getting a charity up and running, so for now we will have this account, as already our friends have come out in force and want to help us honour our special boy by fundraising in his name to help others. We decided upon Daniel's charity, as that will give us power over where the funds go to. We are non-profit, the money raised will be to help families make memories together in the form of memory boxes, days out and a place to stay for respite.

Many thanks for your support, we really appreciate it.
