Story

In May 2016 during a football match I suffered a c5 Spinal injury ultimately resulting in weakness in all four limbs and limited use of my hands. I’d been from Arrowe park to Walton then to the Southport Spinal unit and finally after months of rehab I was discharged in May 2017. I came out of Hospital not really knowing what life was going to be like other than it wasn’t going to be the norm. I had to move out and find a suitable home for my needs as my main mode of getting around was a wheelchair. I was lucky enough to get a bungalow not too far from my family. An I slowly adjusted to my new life.

For the best part of two years I’ve been unable to leave my home independently I’ve had a couple variations and alterations to my wheelchair but to no avail and unless I’m with family or friends I’m essentially housebound. It’s crazy how much you can miss just going for a walk or the convenience of being able to fly the shop or nip to get your hair cut and how much I actually miss working! I hate the thought of ever being a burden on anyone and hate that I essentially rely on other people to help get from A to B. I’ve recently been assessed and cleared to drive and will soon be completing my lessons. I would really like to start working again and continue towards a more fulfilled life.

To be able to do all this I would need a lot lighter wheelchair than my own so I’m able to load it in and out of the car and a smart drive which is a piece of technology that helps propel my wheelchair so I would be able to get around on my own steam. This would allow me to just get up and go without relying on anyone else and regain complete independence. Both these things aren’t funded and without them I would be unable to do all the things I’ve mentioned and be unable to leave my home without requiring assistance. Any help towards achieving this goal would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
