Story

A little bit of our story, our son Theo was born 31.10.20 at 28 weeks at Sunderland Royal weighing 2lb 9.5oz. Our journey with Theo who was born premature was due to complications in the pregnancy these were placenta previa, Chorioamnionitis, pprom and e-coli sepsis which put us both in danger. When Theo was born via emergency c-section he was taken straight away from us to the neonatal intensive care unit where he had a very long road ahead of him. Theo contracted the e-coli sepsis from me & he was given antibiotics to try & get on top of the infection, he also had to endure countless painful lumbar punctures to his spine to check that the infection hadn't spread to his brain. During his time in the unit he was on CPAP to stop his airways collapsing, other various forms of oxygen support, feeding tubes, tpn, long lines into his arms, legs & head, daily blood gasses taken & he needed 3 blood transfusions. When Theo was just 4 weeks old we were taken into a room & told that Theo had become very sick with a condition in prem babies called NEC which affects the stomach lining and can cause perforation. We were told that the RVI were on standby by for surgery & they also said that because of how he was reacting to being handled they were sure he also had sepsis, the doctor warned us that had a 50/50 survival rate, we braced ourselves & our world turned upside down even more at this moment, Theo required to be sedated & ventilated to try & give his body a rest, seeing him in this state he didn't even look like the same baby. After he recovered from the NEC/Sepsis he became stronger & turned a corner, none of this could of been possible without the incredible 24 hour care of his aunties & uncles in the unit & without them & their interventions he wouldn't be here with us today, neither would the other amazing beautiful babies we met on our journey! We would really like to raise some money to give back to the unit any donation however small would be amazing & appreciated!
