I’m not one to air my dirty laundry but I’m feeling left with no other options at this point...Being a single mum is hard at the best of times but I have now found myself in the worst situation I could ever imagine to be in. So here’s my story...
In a nutshell, Me and my ex-partner got a rented property together, back in July 2018, after having our own place together for the first 18 months of our relationship. We wanted to try and save for a deposit on a home so agreed to share this house between us, his parents and brother to reduce outgoings. We all agreed to pay our way towards the bills as the rent is £1800 a month.
A couple of months down the line, the situation became very explosive and hostile, due to the family abusing alcohol on a regular basis and drugs played a big part too. Arguments were a regular occurrence, between everyone in the household, and were quickly becoming violent, which started effecting me and my young daughter.
It was not long after this, in another alcohol-fuelled outburst, that I was forced out of my own property after being told that me and my daughter were not welcome there anymore. Basically, at this point, I felt I was used to help them get a place to live and I was told to go after I wasn’t needed anymore!
Becoming afraid of mine and my daughters wellbeing, I had no option but to leave the property quickly which of course meant I couldn’t continue to pay my part to the bills anymore, as I had to sort myself out with somewhere else to live.
I was told not to worry about the situation regarding the rent and was left in the dark after that.
Four months down the line, I have now found that the rent is £6200 in arrears, and rising, as they haven’t paid any of the rent over the past few months! And because me and my partner jointly signed the agreement, I am now being chased and sought after for the payments and being threatened with court action!
I have been denied all letters, that have been sent to the property and I know my post has been opened without my permission, regarding the issues, and I have been left to chase the landlord/estate agent for all updates as I haven’t been kept in the loop on anything from them either!
I completely understand that part of it is on me because I signed into the contract on the property but what happened after that quickly came out of my control and I really don’t know what to do next.
I am desperately trying to think of ways to raise any kind of funds to try and offset, at least some of the debt, to keep it from going to court but I have hit a brick wall as I have my own bills to pay.
I work 40 hours a week and am a single mum to my 5 year old daughter, I won’t be entitled to any kind of help and to make matters worse, my ex now doesn’t have a job which will mean they will be after me for the money, as I’m working, which I physically haven’t got.
The thought of having to go through the stress of courts will probably make me lose what I have worked so hard for and will end me!
I am pleading for any help at all which could help save me and my daughter from this stress and WITH YOUR HELP, I can finally break the chains on a vile past for good and look forward to giving my little girl the best future I can! She is seeing her Mummy upset on a daily basis and I long to give her the happiness she deserves.
I only hope one day, I am in the position to help someone else in need from similar situations, like I need it right now.
Thank you for reading.
