Story
Hello friends,
Two years ago on the 7th August 2020 after a few weeks of feeling unwell and exhausted, I was admitted to University Hospital Wales (UHW) and diagnosed with blood cancer known as Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL).
After lots of chemotherapy, whole body radiation and then a stem cell transplant from a complete stranger I'm cancer free and feeling pretty good. I was one of the lucky ones, many don't make it. I will forever be grateful to the brilliant team at UHW, my stem cell donor and family & friends for saving my life.
I'm not a runner but I've signed up to the Cardiff half marathon on the 2nd October 2022 to raise some money. If you could sponsor me that would be great. All funds to the Haematology department in UHW.
It's also easy to request a swab kit to be added to the bone marrow register, and these days you don't have to undergo a bone marrow operation, you simply give blood to donate. You could save someone's life. A stranger saved mine! My wife now has her husband back and my 7 year old has his dad. Please follow the link to join the register.
Thanks
Daniel
