Story

I am fundraising of behalf of my 16 year old son, Daniel, who has been selected to be part of the UK Contingent at the World Scout Jamboree 2019 in the USA. This is a great privilege as the World Jamboree only happens once every four years and this time will be in West Virginia. The jamboree is a once in a lifetime international opportunity to foster cultural exchange and promote change and involves the scouts in 18 months of fundraising and preparation. Daniel has been a keen and committed scout for over 10 years and currently helps to lead the troop of younger scouts at the 8th Morden troop in Green Lane. He will represent the Wimbledon and Wandle district scouts as part of the Greater London South West District.

In order to attend the jamboree Daniel has to raise over £3,000. Part of this fee helps the UK to support Scouts from across the world to attend the Jamboree, where the cost would usually prevent them from taking part. A small percentage of each participant's fee is used to offer Scouts from developing countries the opportunity to attend the jamboree. Upon his return, Daniel will share his experiences with local young people to inspire and engage them in international cultures. Attending the jamboree event will increase his confidence, leadership and teamworking skills as well as providing him with skills for employment and the teaching of others.

I am supporting Daniel's fundraising efforts by walking a long distance footpath- the Cumbria Way- over 5 days in July.

Thank you in anticipation for your support.
