Story

On the weekend of Sep 9 & 10 September a bunch of Dan's good mates and family members will get together to remember him at the same time as undertaking a selection of challenges!

The Dan Webber Fund

Dan Webber 1976-2022

Dan had a passion for all things outdoors - rock climbing, skiing, kayaking, biking......

He died before he could achieve all his ambitions. He left a legacy in order that more young people could experience the joy, friendship and challenge in physical activity. And that this might positively influence the rest of their lives.

Dan's legacy, The Dan Webber Fund is being administered by Wiltshire Community Foundation

Through the fund, grants will be given to grassroots groups and charities to enable disadvantaged children and young people to be challenged, gain confidence and learn new skills by participating in indoor and outdoor physical activities of all kinds as well as support community organisations undertaking practical initiatives that take action against climate change.

The Grindleford Goat is a hilly and challenging cycle sportive event which takes place in the heart of The Peak District. Dan rode it on a number of occasions. The Troll is a brand new option with riders attempting all three of the standard signed routes (the Kid, the Nanny and the Billy) plus the Gruff (an unsigned 60km gravel ride), in any order they choose, within 24 hours. That will be roughly 150 miles or 240km with around 4,800m or 15,748 feet of ascent. We think it is a challenge Dan would have appreciated. Entry fees from the riders will be donated to Dan's fund, but we encourage those who sign up to go a bit further and raise some sponsorship from friends and family, many of whom knew and loved Dan. Billy, Steve, Andy, Jamie and Matt will ride the Troll. Pete, Sue, Rachel, Daniel, Stu (who is also running the 9 Edges the previous day!) and Dylan will ride the Nanny. Juan will ride the 100 mile Billy No Mates!

Alex, Stu and Hayley will run, and Rob, Soph, Miles, Ben, Nige, Neil, Jane, Wilf, Theo, Ed, Will and Dylan will walk the amazing 21 mile 9 Edges race which winds its way along the gritstone edges above Grindleford in the Peak District.

Bryn will attempt to climb as many of the 250+ boulder problems at The Climbing Works in a single day as he can.

Julie will run the Great North Run.

Thank you for your support.
