Story
Dan has been battling a rare and aggressive melanoma (stage 4) since late 2022. The disease originated in his spine, where it was on course to paralyse him without immediate intervention.
After emergency surgery followed by 2 months of recovery and then 30 sessions of radiotherapy, he remained stable and regained strength and full fitness through 2023.
In early 2024, the same cancer was confirmed in the lung, followed by progression to the liver by the end of the year. He was placed on immunotherapy in June 2024 but unfortunately showed no response after 7 months of this treatmenf.
As of early 2025, the cancer has spread extensively within the liver with multiple tumours and the largest measuring almost 7 centimetres as of today (May 2025) Surgery, ablation, and radiotherapy have all been ruled out as options by his NHS team. He has been advised by consultants to explore options wider afield as options within the NHS are now clearly becoming limited
Despite this, at the moment Dan is still physically well. He’s active, optimistic and determined to fight. But the tumour in his liver is growing fast, and without intervention, liver failure is a near-term guarantee.
There are still real options. Globally, there are advanced treatments that could help: tumour-infiltrating lymphocyte therapy, oncolytic virus trials, and liver-directed radiation or chemotherapy techniques to name a few. These require urgent referrals and travel to centres in the UK or futher afield potentially with centres being identified in EU, Israel or the US.
We’ve set the goal at £50,000, but the truth is it may need to be more. We simply dont know yet. The priority is making sure Dan can move fast and without constraint and that every option is explored, leaving no stone unturned.
This fund will be used for consultations, treatment access, travel, accommodation and specialist referrals. As we explore and search for the best treatment for Dan the fund will also be used for alternative therapies, treatments, supplements, repurposed drugs, foods and generally just whatever is required to give Dan all the chances he needs to fight this.
Dan has a brilliant family, a big group of lifelong mates and the love of a beautiful fiancee who he is due to marry in Las Vegas in June 2026 - oh and a cute little sausage dog called Rooney. He has absolutley everything to live for!
Every share and donation counts. Updates will be shared regularly and all funds will go directly to support Dan’s fight.
UPDATE FROM DAN (27th August)
A feeling I never thought I’d have - leaving Singleton Hospital with some positive news!
So after about 10 weeks on my new treatment (Trametinib) and a range of other alternative treatments, there is finally a positive response!
All smaller tumours in the liver and lungs have stayed pretty stable but the biggest one in my liver has shrunk from almost 7cm down to around 4cm.
I’m not getting my hopes up quite yet but I’ve walked in to that hospital almost 150 times in the last 3 years for various scans, treatments and consultations and this is by far the best I’ve felt coming out.
Moving forward the hard work and the treatment protocols continue with a few additions lined up to hopefully help me both physically and mentally!
Next scan and update will be in 6 weeks
Thanks again to the class people that have supported me in so many ways ❤️
UPDATE FROM DAN (23rd July)
Thanks again to my mates who set this up and everyone who has supported and donated ❤️
So I’m now 6 weeks into my current treatment which is a targeted drug therapy called Trametinib
I’ve had discussions with NHS oncologists but also multiple private oncologists in the UK including Dr Pickering at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London who agrees this is a sensible treatment to be trying in my current position.
Initial side effects meant I had to stop the drug for a couple of weeks while I recovered with antibiotics and I’m now back on it at a slightly lower dose and the side effects seem to be better.
My first CT scan since starting treatment is scheduled for August 4th. This will be the first chance to assess the treatment and how it is working for me. Previous scans showed multiple lung and liver tumours with the largest being almost 7 centimetres.
An alternative treatment we are looking at is T-Cell therapy which isn’t a common treatment but something which has seen success elsewhere. To asses my eligibility for this, more tissue is needed so a biopsy on my liver is being arranged.
Along with these treatments I’m still continuing with the repurposed drugs, supplements, natural/holistic treatments and RSO.
Huge dietary changes have been made with around 80% of my diet now being meals filled with a range of organic fruits and vegetables with daily natural juices and smoothies thrown in too. The other 20% I do whatever I want 🤟🏿
I’m still feeling well physically and deep down I do back myself and am feeling optimistic. My mindset has switched from obsessing over research and finding a cure to just taking a step back, riding the wave with treatment, looking after my body and enjoying life as much as possible while I do this. Myself and Chelsea have even booked a few nights away to take a break from this madness.
I’ve already been lucky enough to have £4322 raised as part of a fundraising event organised by my family. Massive shout out to my auntie Cerys for her hard work. Another fundraiser has been planned by my sister and mother for the 29th August as well. Not one to be missed!
I’ve been dealt an UNLUCKY hand with this challenge I’m facing but I’m definitely feeling more LUCKY with the incredible support I’ve got around me from not just my family and friends but also the support and generosity of strangers.
Fingers crossed for a positive update in August ❤️❤️
UPDATE FROM DAN (11th June)
I’ve been lucky to have a funding application approved for a targeted drug therapy - TRAMETINIB
I’ve now started this treatment and await follow up scans in 8 weeks to see how I am responding
The door is still wide open to treatment options and the research continues as to the best route to get me out of this hole.
Consultations are now booked with a top melanoma specialist at the Royal Marsden London and I’m in contact with other private specialists to get as many options on the table as possible
TACE (Transarterial Chemoemobolization) in Frankfurt, Germany is currently a leading contender if the Trametinib doesn’t show a good reaction in the coming months. This treatment is likely to cost well over £50,000
Currently the fund is being used for
- Private consultations
- Travel
- Oxygen therapy
- Supplementation and repurposed drug protocols
- RSO
- Holistic therapy
These costs have already gone well in to the thousands and will be an ongoing cost that wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of you!
Thank you so much to everyone that has donated, it means the world ❤️❤️❤️
