Story

Hi! My name is Laura Hewitt, as the founder of a recently opened local bird rescue, Darlington Bird Rescue, I have independently dedicated the past 5 years to helping injured and sick wild birds in our area. Now with a small group of dedicated volunteers, we are able to provide transport, fostering, and unique care. From buzzards to seagulls, each bird has a unique story and a special place in our hearts. Our most touching story is Stevie! A blind, neurological Wood pigeons we all fell in love with, who we found a brilliant pet home for, they travelled 6 hours across the country to come get him ❤️

We don't discriminate, we will even help our furred friends if it calls for it! Last week we helped rescue a cat and got her into a secure rescue. Our ultimate goal is to become an official non-profit charity, but as a small rescue, we need time to navigate the legal process. Our current fundraiser aims to build a savings fund for inevitable vet bills. We are constantly back and forth to the vets to get our birds seen by an avian specialist for the absolute best treatment. We currently have 5 birds under vet care. Despite our personal contributions, the cost of intensive care is overwhelming at times. We are immensely grateful for any donations that can help us continue this vital work.

We have witnessed incredible recoveries - from a bird unable to sit upright after a hawk attack to now flying freely in an aviary. Each success story fuels our determination to save every bird that needs us. Our Facebook page provides updates on our work and offers a platform for those who wish to learn more or contribute. Any support through donations would be deeply appreciated towards our vet bills.

To all those who believe in the value of every bird's life, we urge you to join us in this mission by making a contribution today.

We really do appreciate any support we get!

Thank you ❤️
