Story

In January 2017 I underwent inguinal hernia repair at The Royal Glamorgan Hospital.

On arrival at the Hospital I was told the Consultant surgeon was not available and another surgeon would perform the procedure.

It was not until I came out of theatre that I was informed that they had decided to use a surgical mesh repair and open surgery.

The recovery time took months rather than weeks.

In October 2017 ( 9months post surgery ) the pain started. For no reason the mesh had entrapped my illioinguinal nerve causing severe debilitating pain, drop attacks and months of hospital, doctor and pain clinic appointments.

In November 2018 after more than 12 months of constant acute and chronic pain. I saw a TV show about the mesh complications.

I immediately contacted the specialist from the show Dr Ulriche Muschaweck a World Renowned Hernia Surgeon.

I saw Dr Muschaweck in February 2019 who after viewing the scans and reports has told me that due to the sort of mesh used ( The Bard Perfix Plug - Large ) that i will never be pain free until it is removed, as the mesh not only shrinks once fitted, but also solidifies in the body, causing more pain the longer it is there.

In April 2019 I took out a large bank loan ( the most i could borrow from the bank on my wages )to pay for the removal but while in The Wellington hospital London I was told that she would not be able to perform the operation due to it being too dangerous without a vascular surgeon and that the operation can only be performed by Dr Muschaweck at the Munich Hernia Centre in Germany with her specialist surgical team and having a vascular surgeon on hand in case they accidentally pull the femoral vein, which will result in a fatality.

I was also told I had two other hernias on the opposite side that needed urgent repair,so opted to have those fixed as we had no date set for the removal. The cost of the new operation was just under £7000, which now means we do not have the full amount required for the removal.

I have had to return to work five weeks after one operation due to not having the finances and now have a second, much more serious procedure scheduled in another five weeks.

I have the surgery booked for Wednesday 10th July 2019 at the Starnberg Clinic, and although I am trying to self fund, the procedure alone is in excess of £7000 without travel or accomodation.

I have two choices, one, to continue as I am ,in daily pain, or two, to have the mesh removed and hopefully live a pain free life.

Having no medical insurance and only receiving limited sick pay the cost of the operation is simply out of our price range.

Apart from fund raising for various charities, I have never tried to raise any funds for a personal reason, and while typing this, I am still unsure if this sounds like a begging letter, and personally frightened at sounding so.

please do not feel obliged to donate, but if you were kind enough to it would be gratefully appreciated and anything would be used to simply get my life back to where it was prior to the mesh.
