Story

Jacksons Dad Darren, grandad and uncles are walking the coast of Jersey to raise funds so Jackson can have a new and safe hyperbaric oxygen chamber.

Jackson is 9 1/2 years old, he has a rare disease called Krabbes Leukodystrophy. His life expectancy was 2 years. We believe by giving him a specialist diet and regular use of a hyperbaric chamber we have surpassed this and not only is he doing well, he is medication free.

Jackson currently has a hyperbaric chamber 3 times a week. Our current chamber is now old and becoming dangerous, weve already had it repaired once due to the floor coming away which was scary, but as the chamber is now out if waranty, iur only option is to try and raise funds for a new one 🤞

We notice the difference in him on days he does not go to the chamber - he is stiffer in his muscles, gets more agitated and cries more. We really feel the use of this treatment daily will benefit him.

Just after Jacksons first birthday in August 2015 he was diagnosed with early infantile Krabbes disease. Jackson, like other babies with Krabbes was born apparently healthy and hit all the normal milestones that you expect in the first 6 months of life with no sign that anything was wrong. It was shortly after this time that the condition started to take hold, and he began to gradually lose key skills. Krabbes is classed as a rare disease effecting 1 in 100,000, it is often misdiagnosed.

Unfortunately there is no cure for Krabbes and there is no medical intervention that can prolong Jacksons life. Most babies with this condition become angels some time around their second birthday. Jacksons muscles willcontinue to weaken and can now barley move, hes fed through a tube and cant chew Or swallow, they say he will eventually forget to breath.

Hyperbaric treatment helps Jackson so much, afterwards he is more relaxed both mentally and physically.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a medical treatment that enhances the body's natural healing process by inhalation of 100% oxygen in a total body chamber, where atmospheric pressure is increased and controlled.

Thank-you for taking the time to read this.
