    Story

So last year we as a family started a tradition of giving to those less fortunate then us, last year we bought 50 sleeping bags for the homeless this year we want to go one better. We are working with a charity called streetsouls that provide food, clothing and support for the homeless people of London and are on 2nd week of January planning to hand out as many Christmas sacks to homeless people as possible. Now your probably wondering why after Christmas, and the simple reason is that after Christmas is when they need support the Most. In the UK, most people will at Christmas time make the effort to help the homeless. Charities such as Crisis give them a bed for a week then after, pretty much leave them to be on the streets. Streetsouls are firm believers of help is a yearly thing, not just once a year. although we are doing a "late Christmas" the point is we are providing these people with hope.

In each sack will be some clothes such as hat gloves and socks, and turkey and stuffing sandwich and a Christmas pudding along with a card from each person that donates with their own message. Homelessness in the UK is rising year upon year with some boroughs in London seeing an increase of 96% from this time last year. We are asking our friends, colleagues and family to donate what you can to the cause to show these people we care. Last year i think pretty much everyone in the office donated and increased this from 50 to 75, which was a fantastic effort across the floor and David, who runs the charity was highly appreciative.

During the period July-September 2016 2,638 people were recorded as sleeping rough in London.
Around 1300 of those are new rough sleepers in that period.
Of those sleeping rough 49% of those are UK citizens.
The majority of people of the streets have fell on hard times with the biggest issues being alcohol (47%), drugs (47%) mental health (36%) and with all of them having suffered during their lives which has resulted in those dependencies.
