    Story

Aryana was born in August 2014 at 33 weeks gestation. At birth she needed help breathing and feeding and was in the Neonatal Intensive Care for almost 2 weeks. Since then she has been in and out of hospital and is in pain daily.

Aryana has been on a special medical grade formula since she was 5 weeks old. This sustains her and basically keeps her alive. As Aryana started to try solid foods it became apparent that she just couldn't tolerate them. She would scream in agony for hours and vomit until she passed out and needed rushed to the hospital.
In September 2015 Aryana was admitted to the Ulster hospital to try and sort out her feeding issues. Tests showed that she has an unsafe swallow which is why she was constantly ill until that point with chest infections. It was decided that she should be NG fed. This is normally a short term measure.
We continued to try Aryana with various normal foods. The only food she can take without it causing her a major reaction is unflavoured dry corn puffs and corn pasta. That's it.

In October of 2016 we had to take Aryana to the Great Portland Street Hospital in London to see the top gastrointestinal doctor in the U.K. He confirmed the diagnosis of FPIES - food protein induced enterocolitis. Protein which is found in all foods can send Aryana into shock. He recommended that we Liase with a specialist dietitian who is also based in London . She has been a great help to us, but is very expensive!

Due to severe reflux, metabolic issues and low tone, Aryana has suffered from frequent apnea episodes. At night time her heart rate drops too low and she stops breathing. We have graciously been given a monitor from NARA- the breathing charity, which alerts us when her heart rate drops. Prior to this we had to take it in turns to stay awake and watch her.
She also has severe difficulty going to the toilet. She is in so much pain that she passes out.

Aryana is currently under the care of an endocrinologist due to borderline growth horm
