Our 10 month old lurcher pup was having a great time running around at full speed chasing imaginary rabbits when he misjudged a stone block , collided with it and was thrown up in the air and landed hard on the floor. He was crying , almost screaming in agony . Worst moment of my life as I tried to calm him and help him.
We took him to the vet immediately who gave him pain relief and x-rayed him. He had shattered his right rear femur into 3 pieces and a smaller piece had chipped off. They decided he needed an orthopaedic veterinary surgeon which we found 25 miles away and moved him there immediately. As I write he is having his leg reconstructed .
I was a little shaken when I got the estimated costs of surgery but it was a no option decision for me . Whilst we have pet insurance , it is nowhere near enough to cover the costs and the £1000 in savings that dobby had doesn't go much further .
We are going to forego the replacement car that was planned for the summer and the balance is going on my credit card and we worry about that later . Dobbys wellbeing comes A1 first, not just because he's our little man but also a young , healthy and happy pup.
