Story

According to the British Heart Foundation, there are 30,000 out of hospital cardiac arrests (OHCA) a year requiring resuscitation by the emergency services. 20% of these occur in public places. However, only 1 in 10 people will survive an OHCA. This is not age dependent, 12 people under 35 die each week.

If a defibrillator is used within 3-5 minutes of a OHCA, survival rate jumps from 6% to 74%.

It may surprise many people to know that the village of Monifieth does not have any external defibrillators. Although greatly appreciated, most are within buildings that are not available 24/7.

Monifieth Patient Advisory Group have been working hard to fundraise for at least 1 external defibrillator. However, 1 doesn't seem enough and it is estimated that 10-12 would be needed to potentially help everyone in the area.

The group and many local business are trying to raise as much money as possible in order for these to be installed and maintained throughout Monifieth.

Any donation big or small would help massively towards this target.
