Story
Hi everyone
Dave says -I will be competing in the Outlaw Triathlon @ Thoresby Park On The 2nd September. Each year gets tougher as I get older but this year will be tough as I have recently had surgery on my knee. As well as people like Kevin Sinfield, Richard “Benny” Shaw , I’m determined to keep raising awareness and funds to help those living with MND and to help find that cure / treatment for this devastating condition
Recently another dear and beautiful close family friend,Gemma Middleton, passed away at 36 years old from MND, having fought to survive for 7 years since diagnosed at only 29. Her smile and beauty, and her determination had previously already driven me to dedicate previous fundrsisers for MND in her name
One of Gemma’s last wishes was always to be remembered and never be forgotten - hence this challenge in her memory.
All money raised from your kind donations will be split equally between SiTraN MND research centre at Sheffield and The Darby Rimmer MND foundation co founded by Stephen Darby - a former professional footballer and a very close friend - who is also battling this awful disease, and Chris Rimmer, who has sadly passed. Both are Gemma’s chosen charities. Gem had so many setbacks in the years since diagnosis, yet always managed a beautiful smile and kind word, despite the physical and psychological struggles she faced daily whilst living with MND .
FACT: you have a 1 in 300 chance of developing MND within your lifetime - something to think about ….
This heartbreaking disease has devastated too many families in my local community. It's sadly taken two more good friends of mine - Steve Lloyd and Stu Thackery - far too early.
Thank you to all, every penny will help support those living and those yet to be diagnosed with MND and ultimately it will help find that cure that’s so desperately needed,
Many thanks
Dave
