Hi I'm Dave, I'm starting a fund today to see if I can raise funds to help my boy be a bit more mobile.
Zak is 10 years old and is a double below knee amputee, he has been in and out of hospital for operations all his life. He desperately wants to be like his friends next year and get to school by himself. Unfortunately his friends will be riding bikes to school and Zak is unable to due to his prosthetic legs.
I am hoping to raise £2000 to be able to purchase an attachment for Zaks wheelchair called a Rio firefly,it's basically an electric powered front wheel which attaches to his chair,meaning he'll be more independent and be able to keep up with his friends.
I am trying to raise money for other sources too,to add to money that we've already saved.

When Zak was born we found that there were problems with both of his legs and one of his hands due to amniotic band syndrome.
He had to have his right leg amputated at the age of 1,as the doctor couldn't do anything for It,but tried to fix his left leg with casts, but after 3 years we had to make the decision to amputate again.

He is a regular at the rvi in Newcastle having to have his bones trimmed and capped. Most recently he has had a hinge inserted and attached to his knee to straighten his leg. Throughout all of this my wonderful boy hasn't stopped smiling,I honestly don't know how he does it and where his strength comes from.
Zak has just been to and outward bound centre and fought off the pain to complete each task. Nothing stops him apart from riding a bike.
