Story

Hello there!

On the 11th November I (along with a colleague from ATD) am going to attempt to complete the 10km ‘Marathon Swim’ which is 200 lengths of the Olympic pool in Stratford. Now, normally I get pretty bad cramp after about 40 lengths, and at the time of writing my longest swim is 3km, so this is somewhat of a challenge. I am hoping to raise money for a very worthwhile cause however…..

In June of this year a group of us from ATD Travel Services visited some remote schools in Zambia in partnership with the charities Just a Drop, The Butterfly Tree and African Revival. ATD works with these charities to build classrooms, teachers’ houses and desperately needed sanitation work (boreholes and latrines)

The difference we noticed in the children in terms of energy and demeanour (and attendance!) from the schools with the improved facilities and those without was astounding and actually quite heart-breaking for something so basic.

We have committed to helping fund another such project at Kalonda Basic School where 4 gender dedicated latrines will be built and sanitation training workshops provided. This will make a dramatic difference to the health and futures of the 900+ children who attend the school and the wider community as a whole.

Below you can find out more information about the charities and the work they do and the event itself.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my page and a HUGE thank you in advance for any donations and support you are able to give.

It’s not just something Lenny Henry says every year, the smallest donations really can make a massive difference to hundreds of children’s lives.
