Story
Our ambition is to raise £8,000 to help create the Lucy Shuker foundation and to buy 12 junior sports wheelchairs.
The Office for Disability Issues has updated Department for Work and Pensions estimates which show there are 11.6 million disabled people in Great Britain, of whom 5.7 million are adults of working age, 5.1 million are over state pension age and 0.8 million are children. 20% of those children with disabilities have mobility disabilities (160,000).
There is currently a 3 week wait to use a sports wheelchair for a 1 hour session in Surrey. 12 additional chairs will reduce the wait to 1 week. For aspiring disabled junior wheelchair users in Surrey this will give them the opportunity to pursue sport activities on a weekly basis.
Our longer term ambition is to provide opportunities in other counties and to gain purchasing power to enable our funds to go further and buy more sports wheelchairs.
By supporting Lucy Shuker and creating her foundation there will be an example to the juniors to show what can be achieved and the sporting life they could pursue.
