Story
These two charities are very close to my heart and do very similar, and incredible work offering opportunities for young people to receive an education, and a better life, in some of the poorest areas of Kenya.
I have been privileged to see SEAT grow from very humble beginnings with one family in my church supporting the work of a small school in Nairobi to its current position as a formal charity supporting two schools, improving the lives of over 700 young people.

Kingston Junior Academy does similar amazing work among young people in Kilifi, also in Kenya, and was set up by a Hull man who wanted to do more than just sponsor some of the local children so that they could receive an education.

Both charities are supported via the house system at South Hunsley School and I am delighted to be able to put my time, and leg muscles into raising funds to support their work.
On 30th July 2017, I will be taking part in RideLondon for the third time (having raised money for Shelter and The Alzheimer's Society in the last two years). This is a 100 mile cycle ride on closed roads around the city of London and the Surrey countryside, starting at the Olympic Park and finishing on the Mall.
Then, on 24th September 2017 I will also be taking part in the first running of VeloBirmingham, which is a similar 100 mile, closed road event around the city of Birmingham and the surrounding countryside finishing on Broad Street.
A "Double Century" if you will.
Thank you for looking at my page. I hope you will feel able to support my fundraising for these two wonderful charities ... all donations will be split 50/50.

7 years agoWow. Thanks to a final flurry of donations, the crowdfunding side of my fundraising reached £740 (as you can see, obviously). I also have £155 raised in cash sponsorship for a total of £895. When the money raised by the students in Indus and Draco is added in, I might even have cracked my target of £1,000. Thank you to everyone who has so generously donated to this great cause, and also those who have taken the time to offer words of support and encouragement through my rides.

7 years agoWith a day to go until my page closes, a quick Thank You to everyone who has supported me. First time I have completed two 100 mile rides in the same year, and Birmingham was definitely the hardest ride I have done done, combining 100 miles of cycling with 7000 feet of elevation, over 2000 feet more than I have done in a single ride before. Combined with the £155 given directly to me in cash and funds raised by students at South Hunsley I should break £800 quite comfortably. Not quite the target I was after, but I am pretty happy with that.

I teach at South Hunsley School near Hull, and am a member of St Barnabas' Church in Swanland, which gives me a strong connection to both of these amazing charities. I am a keen cyclist which is why I am raising money by riding 100 miles in both of England's two largest cities.
