Story

Met this lovely man, Tony in Endcliffe Park, Sheffield this morning.(19th November 2018) He's single handedly maintaining the WWII Mi Amigo War Memorial. He's planting up lovely flowers in tubs and generally making the area nice and tidy. He said he'd like it to be the best kept memorial in the country. He was there in the rain fighting a losing battle to clear the site of leaves with a sweeping brush. The memorial is extra special to Tony because as a small boy, he was playing in the park and witnessed this plane crash. For those who don't know the story: The USAAF B-17 Flying Fortress Mi Amigo crashed in the park on February 22nd 1944 killing all 10 airmen. The plane had got into difficulty and needed to crash land. The crew sacrificed themselves to avoid children playing on the open field to crash land in the trees and then bursting into flames and all on board lost their lives. Tony must now be in his 80's and he has Parkinson's. He's already planted some plants in tubs but he's wanting to plant some Christmas/winter holly in tubs at the site (which costs a lot of money). I said I'd put the word out for any help. Beit helping by donating your time to help clear the place of leaves or helping to plant the tubs up or donating money to buy the plants and tubs he wants. Wouldn't it be a lovely gesture if some gardeners or gardening centre could magically make this happen?
