Story
Mersey Lions are a team of competitive young lacrosse players drawn from clubs across Manchester and Sheffield. In 2024 they hope to travel to the US and Canada to compete internationally against established lacrosse teams and clubs. The players are highly motivated, have a fantastic training ethos and have started training together with a single focus to be the best they can, to inspire others and to play lacrosse competitively with great skill and sportmanship.
To get there the team are all determined to raise the funds themselves through events, team building exercises and through hard work.
On the 13th August 2023 "Mersey on the Mersey" will see a team of Mersey Lions players set out to find the source of the river Mersey at the head of it's tributary "The Goyt" above the Cat and Fiddle Pass. From here the team will follow the river on bikes to the start of the Mersey proper in Stockport. They will then canoe it's weirs, will paddle the tunnel under Stockport and 10 miles later in Sale will get back on the bikes and follow the river to its Mouth near Liverpool. "Source to Sea". The epic challenge will consist of approximately 2 miles on foot, 10 miles canoeing and 50-60 miles of cycling.
