I'm raising £1,000 for Alzheimer's UK & £1,000 for Alzheimer's Ireland
Ever since I can remember and even a few times before that, I have been traveling to what I consider to be, the most precious jewel in the Atlantic ocean, some of you may know it as Eire or Ireland.
From going to Kildare to see the O'Rourkes, or off to Galway to see the Carty clan, it has always been a place of adventure, family, friendship and love.
I have travelled by boat, train, aeroplane, car and Coach, from Manchester to Holyhead getting the ferry to Dublin then onwards across to the west, or a flight from Manchester or Liverpool to Shannon or Dublin, it has always been a time to get exited about.
I have been lucky enough to travel to some amazing places, over the years, including backpacking around the Mediterranean, hiking in the Himalayas, whale watching and safari in South Africa and never minded putting a few miles in on my feet, to see amazing things, or just find a good pub.
So as I'm now getting through the second half century of my Life, and still looking for Adventures, I have decided to walk from the river Medlock in Manchester to the Gort river in Galway Ireland.
This journey is 332 miles, the boat journey from Holyhead to Dublin is around 80 miles, leaving around 250 miles of walking.
I hope to complete this walk over a 16 day period, from the 4th July until the 20th of July 2025 walking for 12/13 days, averaging 20 miles every day, with a few rest days in-between.
I will be mostly using the Welsh coastal route on the UK side, then following the Liffey, the canals and the river Shannon route on the Irish side. From Dublin to Galway
I will be trying to highlight the state of the river Medlock and all British rivers due to the lack of respect shown to our waterways by our water companies, and will be reporting on all the rivers I cross along the way. I hope to find Rivers in much better state, than the river Medlock, and I already know what a beautiful river awaits me when I get to Gort.
I will also be hoping to raise a few pounds or euros for Alzheimer's UK and Alzheimer's Ireland.
I will be updating social media FB Instagram and exclusive videos at Medlock valley.org every day so you can keep up with the Adventure, hope you can support us, or just enjoy the scenery as I bounce along for 16 days, and maybe get time to enjoy a few Guinness along the way
