Story

A group of cyclists plan to ride from Cardiff to Evesham in one day to raise money for 3 charities

Starlight

Starlight Ward, Bristol Children’s Hospital - On the 25th August 2021, our lives were changed forever. Our son, Archer, was diagnosed with Stage 4, High Grade Burkitts Lymphoma. The cancer was incredibly advanced, had reached Archer’s pancreas, both kidneys, left eye, nose, throat, skull, spine and into his cerebral fluid circulating around his brain.

We were blue lighted to Bristol Children’s, and there we remained until 1st March 2022. Archer has undergone 8 rounds of high toxicity chemo, 13 rounds of intrathecal chemo, 1 x 7hour neuro-surgery and 32 general anaesthetics. He has beaten Sepsis twice and most importantly the Cancer.

Without the support and all round fabulousness of Starlight Staff, we wouldn’t have our son or our sanity! We want to be able to raise money to make the families lives who are still on Starlight that little bit easier, from care packs, to themed NG tube tapes for the kids, tea bags, coffee, washing up liquid (as this is not provided for the parents, and let me tell you the last thing you need when you’re up all night, every night, is no bloody caffeine!)

It won’t give them what every parent on the ward pines for, a healthy child, but it is those small things in the worst storm that make you not loose all hope.

Noahs Ark Childrens hospital

Noah’s Ark Childrens Hospital in Cardiff provides state of the art equipment, facilities and family support services to ensure the best treatment & outcomes for its young patients.

My granddaughter Ffion continues to receive ongoing treatment for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia when diagnosed in 2020 when aged 3. During the initial 9 week admission, she spent a prolonged period in Paediatric Intensive Care fighting Sepsis infection, resulting in skin grafts and Plastic surgery procedures, which will again be neccessary as she grows up.

Hospital Play Specialists provide a welcome distraction for kids during times of unpleasant medical treatments and help to maintain childrens spirits.

Whilst Ffion won’t be “ringing the bell” for some time yet, we hope our darkest days are behind us, but realise such times await for unsuspecting families.

Please help the Hospital to provide the best for sick children and their families

Phil Currie

Phil was a close friend and colleague of the riders that work at HMP Long Lartin.

Phil had previously been diagnosed with throat cancer some years ago and fought that eventually being given the all clear - unfortuntaley last year he was informed that the cancer had returned at it was stage 4 - terminal

We would all like to raise money for Phil and his family so that he and his family can make some special memories
