Weʼve raised £1,185 to get me to the 2018 Hansa World Championships in Hiroshima

Funded on Friday, 14th September 2018

This campaign is to raise funds to enable me, and a team of people with disabilities who sail a Hansa class of boat, to attend the Hansa World Championships 2018 in Hiroshima.

I can inspire and motivate people. Many people have to deal with life changing events which affect them physically, mentally, or emotionally. Following a high level spinal injury I tried many different things to make my life enjoyable and fulfilling again. There are many things that I am involved with, but sailing competitively against the best has been hugely motivating and influential in creating my new life. Sailing may seem an unlikely sport for somebody who is paralysed from the shoulders down, who can’t swim, and who floats the wrong way up; but it is the only sport that I have found which enables me to compete on level terms against the able-bodied. Travelling to major events with all the necessary equipment and support is very expensive; we are all self funded.

I can give talks about how I have dealt with adversity, sailing, or disability sport; in return for a fee and expenses. Also, I'm interested in hearing about any sponsorship or other fundraising ideas. Or of course I’d be grateful for any donations.

Thank you to everybody who supported me. We had a fantastic trip, and love Japan. Very disappointed to have missed out on 3rd, but pleased with a top 10 finish. Getting a 1st on my birthday was special!
