Story
If you hadn't heard, I've been asked to lead Durham Scouts Unit 39 to the 25th World Scout Jamboree in South Korea in 2023. Having previously led a Jamboree Unit to Japan in 2015 I know what an incredible life changing opportunity this is for young people.
I've seen at first hand the positive impact these experiences have in developing our next generation of leaders - I've seen the wonderful change that happens over the two years of a Jamboree Journey, and I want to help more young people have those opportunities - young people who wouldn't necessarily be able to grasp these opportunities without some help (you can watch the video below to see what the Jamboree Journey is all about).
I've worked hard and have been fortunate in life, and am in the position where I can pay for my own participation in the Jamboree. However, many of our young people and their families need to fundraise much or most of the £3,900 this Jamboree is going to cost. If we want to make these opportunities truly accessible for all young people we need to help them with these costs.
The Durham Scouts' International/Jamboree Fund is a restricted fund used to help support eligible young people attend World Scout Jamborees and other similar events such as European Jamborees, World Moots etc.
From now until the end of 2023, I will be taking part in a number of fundraising events with the members of Durham Scouts Unit 39. I'll be paying for my own Jamboree Journey out of my own pocket, but every penny I raise (that you donate) will go to the Durham Scouts International/Jamboree Fund.
I intended to start with the Seaham Boxing Day Dip, but that was cancelled because of adverse weather. I therefore did my own 'dip' a few days later. I'll be doing other sponsored events, or feel free to just make a donation for a great cause.
I believe that our young people can help change the world for the better - but first of all we need to help them see the world and meet other like minded young people. If you believe that too, or if you or your own young people have benefitted from attending these life changing experiences, please make a donation and help us make these experiences accessible for all young people.
And to make it really worthwhile, I'll cover the JustGiving processing costs and more by adding 25% of whatever you donate.
